SOTF 8 Announced

Clean out your MP44's and dust off your keyboards because the only tournament that matters has returned to Call of Duty 2 for its second tour! Registration for Survival of the Fittest 8 (SOTF 8) will open on Monday, October 30th at 8 PM EST.

SOTF 8 will be a 32 team tournament with a $3200 total prize pot. Prizes will be distributed to the top 4 teams as follows:

1st: $1600 (50%)
2nd: $800 (25%)
3rd: $480 (15%)
4th: $320 (10%)

SOTF 8 is a first-come first-serve, double elimination tournament. The entry fee is $100 a team via credit card or PayPal. Full details on how to register will be given out on Monday, October 30th.

Seeding will be entirely random and will be announced before the tournament starts. Rounds will be played on Wednesdays and Sundays (2 rounds a week) including losers bracket rounds. The tournament will run Wednesday, November 15th through Wednesday, December 20th.

In order to provide the best competition, SOTF 8 will feature the best Call of Duty 2 servers from NuclearFallout. NFO has become a staple in the CoD community and is generally regarded as being the best server provider. SOTF 8 matches will be played on their Chicago and Dallas servers for the lowest pings.

SOTF 8 will also offer as many ways as possible for players, spectators and anyone who's a fan to follow the action. Shoutcasting for the most exciting matches will be done by InviteGamer who have become known for their high quality CoD2 shoutcasts. Every single match will also have a scorebot in an official SOTF 8 IRC channel so you will never miss a kill. Finally, stats will be provided following each match.

The game is truly evolving with new rules. We will be using the different poly commands for smoother game play as well as turning off ambient sounds. In addition to that we are considering some minor weapon changes to balance out the game play while reducing some randomness. These changes may include elimination of one shot headshot kills from the pistols, slight reduction in the damage distance from the shotgun, slightly weaker PPSH, and potentially some changes to smoke grenades.

It will be a tough road for anyone who seeks to survive and be crowned the champions. In the end we will see who is truly the fittest.

Interview with Ben Rosen on Amped eSports

Ted Ottey from Amped eSports sat down with Ben Rosen on Friday, October 13, 2006 to discuss some of the issues surrounding SOTF 8.

Here is a snippet:

With the start of SOTF 8 and a structured anti-cheat system in place and better knowledge of the game, things can be run a bit differently. Rosen commented, "We haven't set anything in stone yet for what is going to be done differently. There are a lot of things that we would like to discuss with the community during a meeting on Monday. Some of these topics include: gun balance changes, regen changes, grenade changes and more. We're looking for everyone in the community to give their input, not just teams and players that will be interested in signing up for SOTF 8." This is a unique characteristic of SOTF as they continue to open to the community of how the event should be run since the original SOTF tournaments were all structured by the organization.
